The Spinney has been around since 1750. Over the years, as you’d expect, it’s seen a few additions and changes. It’s been a rectory for the Arch Deacon of Barnstaple, a hunting lodge, and a family home. In its most recent incarnation, it’s a guest house. Penny & Mick became the proud owners in June 2022 and have taken care in their approach to modernise the business whilst ensuring the history of the property is restored and preserved.
To protect both the house and the setting we try to run The Spinney in a manner that is as sustainable and environmentally friendly as possible. We continue to make commitments that we are sure you will notice when you come to stay.
We’re located in an idyllic spot with fabulous views over open countryside and beyond to Exmoor. Whilst it has a truly rural feel, it is just a five minute drive to the bustling market town of Barnstaple. This way, you can enjoy the slow calm of the rural idyll, while also not going in want of civilisation. The Spinney is the perfect location to tour and discover the many delights North Devon has to offer.
